LIVESTRONG.com Update 3
I’ve lost another kilogram. I guess I should be happy but I expected to loose 2. I thought maybe it’s muscle but fat just seems to be moving around.

Book Reviews: Summer Sisters (1998)- Judy Blume
The quest to read one book per week is, if anything, educational. This is my 27th book and I’m still waiting for it to stop feeling like homework. I assumed the regularity would fuel a passion for reading but the experience is more like running the half marathon. 4km later and I’m already panting where the hell’s that finish line?
Don’t get me wrong, I do like to read but I’d rather play tennis.

Last Orders at Harrods (2005)- Michael Holman
Anyone nostalgic for Africa, Last Orders at Harrods provides an astute collection of almost forgettable but distinct features of life there. Like the difficultly Africans have distinguishing the letter ‘l’ from ‘r’. Many erections were held across the country.

LIVESTRONG.com Update 2
I’ve been on this diet for four weeks. With the exception of last Monday and Tuesday when the arrival of agent Wilson precipitated an all out cheese fest, I’ve managed to maintain strict control over my caloric intake. But has it worked…

Book Reviews: The Liar (1991)- Stephen Fry

Bizarre yet clever. Like the time I got stuck playing tennis with an 80-year-old hooker who serves a mean forehand while smoking in the other. It’s John le Carré meets Gordon Korman…. and a whole lot of buggering.
Laden with British wit and argot, The Liar is, at times, hard to follow but remains one of the most beguiling books I’ve read this year.

The Stone Diaries (1993)- Carol Shields
This book is a fictional autobiography. It chronicles the life of Daisy Goodwill-Flett from 1905 to 1985 and includes family photos. Interesting story but for me the best part of the book happens in the second half when the author explores intimate aspects of human nature. A particularly notable moment is when the protagonist falls into a deep depression and Shield’s allows each character to explain why.
Good book!

LIVESTRONG.COM Update
I’ve now passed two weeks on this diet, which I have to say is pretty easy to follow once I got a cheap electric scale. Without snacking I’m able to limit myself to 1296 calories/day. The problem is that I have a major sweet tooth.

Book Reviews: Raven (2004)- Michael Murray
I found this book at a second-hand book sale and because Raven is unlike most books we have on our shelves, I bought it…. for my husband. Two years of sitting on the shelf, I thought I’d give it a go.

Globecord Staff Eagerly Await Kick-Off
The traditional Globecord-sanctioned World Cup pool was closed earlier today in preparation for the first game of the tournament which starts this afternoon. This year, pool organizers switched to a draft format which took place over the last week. Spain went first overall, and South Africa last, with Honduras and North Korea left out in the cold, unwanted by any of the participants. Look below the break for the complete draft results and good luck to all who played.

Book Reviews: The God of Small Things (1997)- Arundhati Roy
Lay-Ter.
Like the deep-sounding bell in a mossy well. Shivery, and furred. Like moth’s feet.
The inside of this book is swarming with flowery adjectives, metaphors, alliteration and forced imagery that would make any of the 50-year-old women in my writing workshop swoon. The outside of the book is covered with accolades, eighteen in total.
Me, I just don’t get it.
