 | Book Reviews: The Pyramid (1999)- Henning Mankell |
Have you ever asked someone what they were chewing and get a 15 minute monologue on the history of latex before the answer? Gum.
That reply holds about the same level of suspense as this book.
The Pyramid is a collection of short stories about a Swedish police inspector, Kurt Wallander. The capable writing suggests the book has potential but the resolutions continue to fall flat with each story. There’s nothing more lethal than a mystery novel driven by a random sequence of events that lead to a random conclusion. If that doesn’t kill you, the boredom of drawn out subplots will. In between finding a body, Inspector Wallander must buy a car, bail his father out of jail, deal with an impending divorce and do laundry before visiting a sick friend in the hospital.
I’m surprised they let me on a plane with this book. It’s that dangerous.
