Flower Clock Annals: Week 52: Zero Hour; AKA Terminus
And with this picture, the sun sets on the Flower Clock Annals project. A fitting end to this year long experiment which took us from the heady days after Euro Cup 2008, to the stately design we see today. And although this marks the final post in the project, much data has been collected over the past year and will be further analyzed by the members of the FCA project for months to come. But for now, all of us here at the FCA project would like to thank all our regular readers for their support, encouragement and occasional assistance over the last year.
Despite its flippant beginnings, we think that taking a picture of the flower clock each week for a year has added significantly to the collective that is human knowledge and will hopeful inspire others to pursue other such whimsical projects both under the Globecord umbrella, and in the greater world beyond. Merci et adieu.

Flower Clock Annals: Week 51: Clockenspiel
Another week passes, and while no errant fireworks damaged the Flower Clock, neither did the hands of the good folk at the Département de la cohésion sociale, de la jeunesse et des sports update the clock. However, the clock does look tidier than in weeks past suggesting some minor upkeep has been taking place. But since this is the penultimate week of this project, we here at the Flower Clock Annals not going to dwell on this but rather, recap the musical part of this project. Below the break, you will find a summary of the 40 flower or clock related themes that blasted you in MIDI form during the past year. So sit back, relax and click on a few while you reminisce of clock-faces gone by.

Flower Clock Annals: Week 50: Bonne Fêtes
It's Fêtes de Genève 2009 and to celebrate we here at the FCA project are breaking one of our cardinal rules (that is: no people), and are including an image of the clock surrounded by happy visitors. Not only does this give you a small sense of craziness that can surround the clock when the tourists are in force, but it also partially obscures the clock-face which still remains untouched. Barring destruction by some horrific fireworks accident this Saturday, it is getting less-and-less likely that the clock will change before the expiration of this project in two weeks. C'est dommage.

Flower Clock Annals: Week 49: Doldrums
Vacation season has hit this project hard. Not only are the Flower Clock tenders AWOL leaving a dismal and decaying bed of flowers for Geneva's visitors to see, but a summer jaunt taken by our primary IT guy plus a server crash delayed this posting by five days. Rest assured, the picture is indeed from early last week yet one could not tell has it still appears as it has for the last month. But time is running out for both this project and the tourist season with the pyromelodic climax of the Fêtes de Genève scheduled for this weekend, and this project's final post a few weeks later...

Flower Clock Annals: Week 48: Summer Siesta
Unbelievably, yet another week passes without movement on the Flower Clock front. What's the hold up? As we saw last week the flowers are done, and we are just begining the high tourist season where the wealthy from all over the world come to Geneva to check their bank accounts and do some luxury shopping. Yet, the Flower Clock gnomes remain hidden and the clock continues it slow decomposition. There are however hints of renewal - a city van was spotted just outside the frame of the picture (see Sup.A). Perhaps planning of the next iteration of the clock is underway...

Flower Clock Annals: Week 47: Withering Heights
Like a fading Victorian garden, the Flower Clock has fallen on some hard times. From both the normal view, and the close-up of the flower cluster in the bottom right (see Sup.A), you can see that many of the flowers are well past their prime. The alternating sweltering heat - cool rain weather we have had of late, plus the requisite storms in between, have eliminated most of the little white flowers leaving an unsatisfying and patchy look. Although the main face still appears good, it is unlikely this incarnation of the clock will be around much longer unless the tenders have wandered off on a prolonged summer vacation.

Flower Clock Annals: Week 46: Neville's People
Although the Flower Clock seems once again to be left unchanged the importance of the work being done here needs to be stressed now that we are nearing the end of the Clock project. You the reader should understand just how lucky you are to be seeing constant reports on this iconic land mark. It truly is a privilege to be able to read about and see this prestigious floral time piece. The tourists that flock to this Mecca of Europe get to see it only for a brief moment and their souvenirs are but one snapshot in time. It took well over 10 minutes to get this week's shot of the clock, so enthusiastic were the tourists hungry to have their pictures taken on this most hallowed of spots.
The sheer drawing power of the floral clock cannot be over estimated. Are the tourists jostling for best position for photos from within or from the top of the 11th century Cathedral of St.Paul which sits atop the more ancient roman and even pre roman religious sites? No. Are they risking life and limb in the crazed traffic of Geneva to stand at the spot where the Mighty Julius Caesar bridged the fast flowing River Rhone on his epic march into Gaul and immortality? Do they even take as many pictures of the world famous Jet d’eau? I haven’t witnessed anything like that. Yet for the clock I have seen this happen with my own eyes. American and Chinese tourists fight and argue for a chance to have their own photographic piece of “Time”. The site of the Clock seems to mirror the or perhaps even intensify the arguments and discord of the United Nations located just a few kilometers away. The floral clock is meant to bring people together with its star power not drive us apart.

Flower Clock Annals: Week 45: Home Stretch
We are now entering endgame of this project, and unlike the Highlander film series, we here at the Flower Clock Annals project hope to finish strong. However, the Flower Clock gnomes aren't being especially cooperative and have left the clock visibly untouched for yet another week. Summer is officially here, and since the big summer events will necessitate a change soon, and we are confident this will take place before this project is complete. But as we are now over 85% done, flower and/or clock themed songs are becoming quite scarce - we have only a few left in the hopper - so please, send some suggestions our way in the comments below or directly to the Globecord twitter feed if you so are enabled. We apologize in advance for the lameness of this week's theme.

Flower Clock Annals: Week 44: Clockwerk
That damn sun is getting more problematic and seems to actually be in the frame now around 9am. Although this behind-the-scene detail will have to be addressed by the consummate professions here at the Flower Clock project, this will be made easier by new addition of a iPhone 3GS recently acquired by the team. And to celebrate the release of this marvel, we present below our second video feature, filmed entirely with the improved video camera in the iPhone 3GS allowing you to save the airfare to Geneva and experience what standing in front of the Flower Clock for 30 seconds is really like. More interesting than watching paint dry? Yes; but just.

Flower Clock Annals: Week 43: A Less-Whiter Shade of Pale
Take a close look at this week's Flower Clock Annals portrait and you will notice a definite yellowing of the clock. This is not an artifact of the colour balance; the planted flowers are really yellowing fast like a habitutal Betel Nut chewer's teeth. Although not completely unpleasant, methinks that this development will result in a quick replanting of the clock sooner rather than later. Tourist season is fast approaching - Fête de la Musique is next weekend and the ever-popular Fêtes de Genève on its heels, so the clock keepers better get to it!
